About Us
Robert Gilchrist and Issac Scudder founded Schumann Hanlon in 1850 as "Scudder and Gilchrist" -- two lawyers guided by entrepreneurial spirit. Today, as then, the same entrepreneurial spirit guides us in providing legal services to our clients. The law firm's main office is located at 30 Montgomery Street, just across the street from our founder's first office. Today we also have offices in Bayonne, Englewood, and Red Bank, New Jersey. We are now one of the metropolitan area's most prominent mid-sized law firms, providing a full range of legal services to businesses and individuals.
Since 1850, we have earned our clients' trust by exercising good judgement and wise counseling. We never want to lose that trust. We realize we are in the "business of law", we are business people with law degrees. In order to provide the quality legal services at reasonable rates that our clients expect we have divided the legal disciplines into practice groups. To address our clients' needs our "Practice Groups" allow us to draw upon the cumulative knowledge and expertise of lawyers experienced in a number of seemingly diverse areas of the law. Our Practice Groups are: the Transactional Practice Group, the Real Estate Practice Group, the Litigation Practice Group, and the Trusts and Estates Practice Group. Within each Practice Group, there are subgroups whose areas of focus overlap in many ways. Our size gives us the breadth as well and the flexibility to service your needs without the inefficiencies common to larger firms.
